The Basics Of Cervical Artificial Disk Replacement
Cervical artificial disc replacement has come about after lumbar artificial discs were FDA approved back in 2004. The neck implants became FDA approved approximately since 2008. Preserving motion is the goal, since fusions of the spine weld bones together and shift the stresses that previously were absorbed at levels above and below. This may result in adjacent level disease after the surgery. The neck implant is designed to replace a damaged or diseases intervertebral disc in the neck. This can be seen with degenerative disc disease, a herniated cervical disc, or maybe a post-traumatic issue.
This disc problem then creates a situation where pinched nerves occur. Spinal nerves can be compressed directly by disk substance that has protruded into a region where it's not normally seen. Or with a degenerative disc disease height in the disc space is lost to such an extent that nerves are compressed indirectly as they try to exit from the spine.
The cervical disk surgery is performed with a surgical approach from the front of the neck just off to the side. Neck muscles are not split, but separated from each other, making the post-operative pain very tolerable in most cases.
Once the spine is reached, a device is put in to keep the esophagus, vessels, and musculature to the sides and the complete diseased disc is then removed. As soon as the whole disc is removed, the vertebrae are left alone except for some slight remodeling performed so the implant will be accepted.
Sizing instruments are utilized to size for the neck disk replacement, and then the final shiny metal device with a plastic spacer is placed. There are a few different kinds of neck disc replacements, with some being "press-fit" while others actually have a screw above and below into the bone to keep it more stable. A real time x-ray machine, called fluouroscopy, is used to make sure the implant is centered properly. This is key, as it is important to have the implanted centered to try as best as possible to recreate physiologic range of motion.
Individuals typically leave the hospital within twenty four hours with the complication rates and pain relief being shown to be similar to usual cervical fusions.
Cervical disc replacements have shown equivalency so far to cervical fusions. Neck fusions done from the front have a very high success rate with over 90% being satisified. Neck disk replacements cost a lot more than fusion, so it will be necessary to obtain longer term studies to see if the increased cost is justified with better clinical outcomes.Surgery should only be considered after conservative treatments fail, such as Phoenix physical therapy, Arizona pain center treatments, or chiropractic treatment.
how do i find out what year my harley frame is if the numbers on the neck are not present?
I got a harley frame, but the neck has been raked, and the numbers welded over, how do i find out the year of the frame?
there is a casting where the swing arm mounts.
On that casting is a number if it ends -58 your frame may be pre- numbers. If the last two are-72 you are in deep. Kiss your frame goodbye it will be impounded.
you didn't say if it was big twin or sportster
