HVAC Vacuum Pumps are Necessities for HVAC Repair Technicians
For the individual or company that is in the HVAC repair business, HVAC vacuum pumps are a must have as part of the equipment that is used during repairs. This tool is used to prevent freeze-ups of the system, detect leaks, avoid corrosion in the system, and prevent the refrigerants from mixing. When HVAC systems freeze up the entire system will either shut down or begin pumping out warm air because it cannot remove the heat and dispense air that has been treated for comfort. Water vapor is a destructive force when it comes into contact with metal, so removing it with vacuum pumps is the best way to deal with ill effects from corrosion.
There are times during the life of an air conditioning system when additional refrigerant must be pumped into the unit. This can occur when there has been a leak in the lines or when a new type is required for more efficient operating. Using HVAC vacuum pumps during this process will assure complete removal of the old refrigerant and that there is complete delivery of the new. It will also remove any water vapor and prevent damage to the system.
Vacuum pumps can also be used to detect leaks of the refrigerant as well. Technicians pull a vacuum on the system and then leave it for about five minutes. After this period of time they are able to determine if a loss of vacuum occurs. If it does this is a sure signal that a leak in the system is probably. At this point discovering the source is the next step. Once the leak if repaired the HVAC vacuum pumps are used to remove any moisture before it is again sealed.

can a vacuum pump create 10 kilobars of pressure?
i was just woundering if anyone knows how much pressure a vacuum or vacuum pump can create?
Keep in mind that vacuum is negative pressure. Since atmospheric pressure (at sea level) is one bar, a perfect vacuum (absolute negative pressure) is -1 bar, so vacuum can only be from 0 bar (atmospheric pressure) to -1 bar (perfect vacuum).
Also, rather than vacuum being measured in bar with units from 0-1, vacuum is typically measured in other units like mmHg (Torr) or Pa.
