What Will You Need For Your New Baby?
When you bring home your new baby and lay him or her down in the crib, you will always catch yourself standing there, mesmerized and watching your baby sleep. You are going to have many things going through your head at these times and one of those thoughts will most likely be about the things you want to do for your baby. You will want to take the best care you can and making sure that you have the right items to do that is important when it comes down to basic care.
Necessary care means feeding and bathing. These are two of the things that brand new parents spend a lot of their time doing, especially in the first year of a baby's life. The only other thing that fits in there that takes as much time is diaper changing. Make sure that you buy the items that are going to make these times the most comfortable for you and baby.
One thing you will most certainly want to spend a bit on is an electric breast pump if you choose to breast feed your baby. This kind of pump works in half the time of manual pumps and will give you the freedom of being able to leave your baby with a sitter while you get out for a much needed break once and awhile. The days of having to stay with your baby at all times because you want to breast feed have long been gone.
Years ago, before a pump for the breasts was ever an option, many women suffered through a condition called mastitis. Breast afflicted with this condition become severely painful due to infected milk glands. If milk isn't expressed as often as it should be, then mastitis is highly likely to occur. Using a pump will help in keeping this from happening.
Giving your baby a bath is going to be a special time for both of you. You are going to enjoy watching your baby discover water and how fun it is to splash it everywhere. You are going to look forward to bath time as well because a warm bath usually fore goes bed time and quiet time for mom and dad.
A baby bath is a time for you and baby to relax and enjoy each other and for baby to enjoy splashing in the water. For the best time during giving your a bath, you are going to need to make sure that you have everything that you will need there and in reach that is needed.
Getting baby out of the water will require the use of two separate baby bath towels. Use the first one to dry baby off, then use the second one to swaddle baby up with to prevent a chill from going over your baby.
What are the best breast pumps out there?
I plan on breastfeeding during the first 12 weeks and switching to formula once i go back to work. I'm looking for a pump to use sparingly. Are manual pumps any good at all?

Double electric are great....
there are some that can be safely be reused - if that is a route you'd like to take... make sure they've NOT been labeled by the FDA as "single user" or "single patient" devices.
They have a closed system that does not allow milk to get trapped anywhere!!
Ameda Purely Yours has a closed system... either you can buy one used, or buy it new, then legally resell it to get some of your money back.
In the US, it is actually illegal to sell one of these "single user" labeled pumps. So check w/ the manufacturer before investing in a new one, or buying one used (or borrowing/taking a hand me down)
