intermittent spark ignition systems for restaurant cooking equipment?
I am working on a Blodgett convection oven (propane) which is equipped with a Johnson Controls G770 type spark controller. My problem is that after the pilot flame is detected and the main burner solenoid valve is energized the main burner lights for about a second and then both the pilot flame and the main burner flame are extinguished. The ignition system then recycles with the same result, ultimately going into lockout. Replacing the control yields the same result so I have discounted the possibility of it being at fault. Any suggestions? The factory offers no viable solutions.
What is it using for flame detection? fire eye or thermo couple?
These systems are not that complicated. The flow chart I would use is this...
Is the flame sensing device positioned appropriately? Check alignment.
Is the flame sensing device providing sufficient signal for the gas valve to open? Measure the output of the t-couple and check that against gas valve specs. Sometimes a t-couple will provide enough current for pilot, but drop out on full demand.
Are all peripheral safety devices like limit switches and thermostats functioning properly? Temporarily bypass them for diagnostic purposes only.
Is the gas valve itself at fault? You might have got a defective replacement. Not likely if it performs the same as the original one, but not impossible.
Are fuel inlet pressures correct? Some gas valves can be sensitive to excessive or very low gas pressure. Make sure your inlet pressure is reasonably correct.
That's about all I can offer off the top of my head...Hope it helps!
